GHS sends five grapplers to Meet of Champions
GOFFSTOWN – The
Goffstown High School
wrestling team finished its regular
season 12-4, which included
a 31-30 victory against visiting
Bow High School late in the
year.
On Saturday, Feb. 19, GHS
traveled to Con-Val High
School in Peterborough for the
Division II state championships
and placed fourth overall behind
Plymouth, Hollis/Brookline and
Bow.
The Grizzlies had their firstever
state champion, crowning
senior captain Peter Raymond
in the 152-pound weight class.
“Peter wrestled like a champ,
coming back to win the match
4-3 after being down 0-3
halfway through against a tough
Plymouth opponent,” said GHS
wrestling coach Todd Lavallee.
Other GHS notables included
juniors Chris Pastrana, Kyle and
Kevin Rose, and sophomore
Matt Hayes.
Pastrana won the state title at
275 pounds, pinning his way
through the tournament. All of
Pastrana’s pins came in the first
period.
In the consolation round,
Kevin Rose placed third at 160,
Kyle Rose placed third at 171
and Hayes placed third at 112.
“Goffstown improved tremendously
compared to years past
and looks forward to this
(Saturday, Feb. 26) at Concord
High School at the Meet of
Champions,” Lavallee said.
At the M of C, the top four
finishers in each D-II weight
class face off against the top six
in each D-I weight class, determining
the top three wrestlers to
represent New Hampshire at the
New England Championships.
