Something wrong in Weare
The lack of openness in Weare regarding the status of town
employees is once again forcing this newspaper to wonder
what the heck is going on with the town government. The town
administrator gives notice, but won't give our reporter a reason
for leaving? On top of that, finance administrator Elayne Pierson
is fired for unknown reasons, but at an unscheduled meeting
selectmen note that Pierson has set up bank accounts for the
town at several places, including a bank in Laconia, where the
only authorized signature is her own.
It gives the impression that something very wrong is happening
in Weare's town government and that people are scrambling
to cover their tracks and get out of town before they're
caught.
If you thought new Police Chief Greg Begin had a big job on
his hands restoring the Weare Police Department's reputation,
just imagine him adding the work of a town administrator to his
schedule. He seems willing to take on the job. All we can hope
for at this point is that if illegal activity has taken place, Begin
will take the appropriate action.
In the meantime, more honest and open review of the town's
actions would be appreciated by all who live in Weare.

Thanks for making the 10th Annual PetWalk a success
To the Editor:
On behalf of the board of
directors, staff and volunteers of
the Friends of the Manchester
Animal Shelter (FMAS), I
would like to personally thank
everyone who participated in
our 10th Annual PetWalk that
took place on Sunday, June 5, at
Livingston Park.
Because of the community's
generosity, the event was a huge
success, and we were able to
raise almost $10,000 that will
be used to provide care for Manchester's homeless and neglected
animals.
Photos of PetWalk are
now available online at
community.webshots.com/album/363663768UvekQc (view
in slideshow mode). Pictures
will be added to this site as they
become available.
FMAS, located at 490 Dunbarton
Road, Manchester, is a
501(c)3 nonprofit organization
dedicated to providing critical
medical care, food and foster
care for sick, injured and pregnant
pets; as well as comfort and
care for homeless animals and
relies heavily on the local community
for our day to day operational
expenses. We believe
that all animals are deserving
of life, respect and care. To that
end, our goal is zero population
growth through spay and
neuter programs and services
that focus on education, medical
care, fostering and adoption.
We are very excited to
announce that our "11th Annual
PetWalk" fundraiser has been
scheduled for Sunday, June 4,
2006, with a rain date of Sunday,
June 11, 2006. We hope
everyone will be able to join
us!
Thank you again to everyone
for their generosity and helping
us to make "PetWalk" a
HUGE success! Not only do
we appreciate it ... the animals
do as well.

GHS grad speeches well done
To the Editor:
Graduation speeches are
notoriously deadly, a surcharge
endured by families on behalf
of their children as a final cost
in obtaining a precious diploma.
The student speakers at the
Goffstown High School graduation
this year were a welcome
relief.
One began with storytelling,
including acutual imagery
(gasp!) and extended metaphor.
Another closed her piece with a
lovely somber air on the violin.
It was a teeny bit disappointing
that there was no actual girl shot
from a cannon, as the program
had promised (perhaps the academic
gown throws off the calibration?),
but we admit it was an
attention-grabber. Further, that
speaker did not take advantage
of our heightened expectation
by descending into a tedious girl
power sermon, which was my
next worry.
Thank you all three, and well
done.

Please return items to grave site
To the Editor:
Whoever stole a very large pot
of red, blue, purple and white
vine flowers with an angel on
a rod in it, and also a 12-inch
white sleeping angel, from my
son's grave site at the Westlawn
Cemetery on Saturday, June 18,
between 11:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.,
please return it to the grave site.
