Hunt for high school hardware in full swing

Several high school athletic
teams from local high schools
participated in various postseason
tournaments for the 2005
NHIAA spring season.
The following lists the results
of games played through
Tuesday, June 7. A complete list

Boys tennis
In Class L action, No. 2
Manchester West worked the
spring.s biggest upset, upending
top-ranked Concord - winner
of 127 consecutive matches and
seven straight state titles - on
Thursday, June 2, 5-4.
The Tide arrived in the finals
after beating No. 8 Goffstown
in the first round on May 25,
9-0, and No. 4 Salem on May
31, 6-3.
Girls tennis
In Class L, West made it to
the state semifinals as the sixth
seed before bowing out to No.
2 Salem, 7-2, on May 31. The
Blue Knights advanced after an
upset opening-round 5-4 win
against No. 3 Goffstown on
Friday, May 27.
Boys lacrosse
In Division III, No. 7 John
Stark of Weare won its opener
against No. 10 Somersworth
on May 31, 8-3. The Generals
advanced to the quarterfinals on
June 2, where they lost to No. 2
Kearsarge, 15-5.
No. 9 Trinity of Manchester
pulled the mini-upset against
No. 8 Milford on May 31, 6-2.
The Pioneers faced top-seeded
Laconia in the quarterfinals on
June 2, and lost, 16-1.
Girls lacrosse
In D-III, John Stark made the
tourney as the No. 7 squad, but
lost to No. 2 Oyster River of
Durham in the first round on
May 31, 17-7.
Baseball
Salem knocked of No. 10
Goffstown in the opening
round on June 2, 2-1, in Class
L action.
Softball
In Class L, No. 10 Trinity
lost to No. 7 Dover in the first
round, 4-1.
In Class I action, John Stark
of Weare, seeded No. 16, was
unable to pull the first-round
upset of top-ranked Kennett.
The Generals season came to
a close with a 7-1 setback on
June 1.
