Villa Augustina comes up big in small-school meet

AMHERST - The Villa Augustina track team, competing with seven other small schools, took home 13 medals in 10 events - breaking two division records - at the Tri- County Division IV Track Meet in Amherst on May 27.

Scott Hambleton, 15, of Weare, earned two gold medals and two silver medals, as well as the title of Male Athlete of the Year for the meet. He broke the division record for the long jump, hopping 16 feet, 5 inches; he also earned first place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1 minute, 1.37 seconds. Hambleton took second place in the boys 100-meter hurdles and anchored a relay team with Caleb Goodnow, Phil Bouchard and Kyle McNamara for a silver medal.

Ryan Jones, 14, earned a gold medal and the division record with an effort of 110-7 in the discus throw.

Villa sixth-grader M.E. Stewart earned third place in the girls 400-meter dash, and fifth-grader Meghan Turner finished third in the 1,600-meter run. Sara Goodnow was 13th in the 1,600 and Cathy Jones finished 15th.

In the boys 1,600, Phil Bouchard was 13th for the Saints, and Ryan Lunderville crossed the finish line 16th.

Competing in the girls 100- meter hurdles, Coleen O'Hurley was 11th, followed immediately by Tricia Jobe. Samantha Feller finished 15th. In the boys 100 hurdles, Jason Evans took seventh and Caleb Goodnow finished 10th.

In the girls 100-meter dash, M.E. Stewart was 13th, Tricia Jobe took 15th, and O'Hurley was 18th. Evans finished 14th, Steve Edmonds was right behind in 15th, and Jay Bouchard finished 16th in the boys 100.

In the girls 400, Katie Stewart took 11th in a personalbest performance, followed by Samantha Feller in 12th. Kyle McNamara finished 14th with a personal-best effort in the boys 400.

Mary Richardson finished 13th, Sara Olson took 16th, and Katherine Grisanzio crossed the finish line 18th in the girls 200-meter dash. In the boys 200, Jay Bouchard took 12th, while Cameron Condylas and Ben Seifert took 15th and 16th, respectively.

In the girls 800-meter run, Morgan Sweeney took 10th, Cathy Jones was 13th, and Sarah Goodnow finished 14th. The boys 800 included Phil Bouchard in seventh, Ryan Lunderville in 17th and Jeff Bessette in 19th.

The girls 4x100-meter relay team of Emily Jobe, Tricia Jobe, M.E. Stewart and Meghan Schnare finished in fifth place. The boys 4x100 team of Ryan Jones, Jay Bouchard, Steve Edmonds and Jason Evans finished sixth.

In the girls 4x200-meter relay, Mary Richardson, Katie Stewart, Colleen O'Hurley and Sarah Olson finished fifth.

Long jumper Tricia Jobe finished ninth, Samantha Feller was 11th, and O'Hurley finished 17th for the girls. Ryan Jones was 10th in the boys long jump, while Jason Evans was 16th.

Sarah Olson took 15th, M.E. Stewart finished 18th, and Mara Palma was 19th in the girls discus. Caleb Goodnow finished 10th, while Steve Edmonds took 14th place for the boys.

In the girls shot put, Emma Pratt placed 15th, Mary Richardson was 17th, and Katie Stewart took 19th. For the boys, Goodnow was sixth, Phil Sheppard was 17th, and Cameron Condylis, placed 18th.
