Hockey teams taking their best shots

Jr. Monarchs highlights

The New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs Squirt mixed team went 0-2-1 in a three-game stretch in early December.

In Seacoast League action, the Jr. M's lost a 1-0 battle to Mt. Washington Valley, 1-0. Despite pulling goalie Kyle Chalifoux, the locals were turned aside on two good scoring opportunities.

In a second Seacoast League game, the Jr. M's fought Somersworth/Berwick to a 2-2 tie shortened by a power outage with 2:10 remaining in the second period. Ryan Plourde tipped in a Jace Rainey shot, and AJ Potvin scored on a feed from Jonathan Mathieu. Jeff Bernier backstopped the Monarchs.

In a Granite State League game, the Jr. M's lost a tough 3-2 decision to White Mountains. Potvin lit the lamp with help from Chalifoux and Derek Franco. Mathieu tallied on a Kyle Rainville pass. Bernier played well in net.

The Jr. Monarchs Squirt mixed team fell to New Hampshire East, 4-2. Potvin, assisted by Mathieu, and Plourde, assisted by Mathieu and Michael Hackett, scored the goals. Chalifoux tended net.

In a 6-2 loss to Dover, Raney and Rainville scored, while Nicholas Brown had an assist. Bernier stopped 24 shots on goal.

Oyster River upended the Squirts, 5-3, despite goals from Franco, Potvin and Chalifoux. Raney, Mathieu and Hackett had assists. Bernier backstopped for the Juniors.

In a 5-2 loss to Dover, Franco scored to tie the match before penalties stymied the locals in the third period. Rainville also scored. Russell Pallas and Plourde had assists.

The Squirts tied Back Bay, 2-2, overcoming a pair of onegoal deficits. Pallas scored on a Plourde helper, and, after the Flames pulled goalie Jeff Bernier, Pallas scored again on Rainville and Raney assists. Bernier made 19 saves.

In recent Tri-Town Jr. Monarchs PeeWee/Bantam/Midget House League action, it was the Gold team taking the Blue team, 2-0. Chris Burdzy and Seth Miller scored unassisted goals.

The Blue team also beat the Gold on Jan. 22, 5-3. Ryan Pacheco scored twice, and Zack Soares, Nathan Holtgrove and Andrew Morton also tallied.

Soares had two assists. Tyler Cornellier scored twice for Gold, and Dominic Cesarini also found the net. Chris Burdzy and James Lambert earned assists.

Lady Hurricanes highlights

In a prior meeting with Acton Boxboro, the U12 Manchester Lady Hurricanes were crushed, 12-0. This time, the team was very competitive, outshooting Acton, 23-17, in a tight 6-4 setback.

Emma Tufts, assisted by Kailah Donovan and Crystalle Parent, tied the score in the second. Marissa Fifield, Parent and Tufts, on a Fifield helper, pulled the locals within one goal before Acton finally prevailed.

The Hurricanes handled Nashua, 5-1, in their Granite State League opener. Madison Earle, Hannah Curley, Kailah Donovan, Jenna Mead and Kerry Chouinard were strong defensively throughout the game.

Fifield scored the game's last three goals, while Sarah Garrett and Parent also tallied. Kaylie DeCosmo, Parent, Curley and Tufts had assists.

The 'Canes defeated Concord/Carlise, 5-1. The line of Hannah Cote, Hannah Madden and Erin Joyce led the way, with Joyce scoring twice; Tufts and Earle assisted. Fifield added two more, and Parent also tallied.

Goalie Jen Barium allowed just two goals in the two wins.

Huskies highlights

The American Guardian Septic Squirt A team beat North Andover, 6-4. Shayne Cashin scored twice, and Daniel Medvitz, Keith Galli, Zach Storro and Dylan Schlange also found the net. Shea Coleman, Charlie Callif and Steven Ricker had assists. Connor McDonald played well in net.

In a 9-0 drubbing of Arlington, McDonald stopped 18 shots, helped by the defense of Corey Kasiaras and Callif. Schlange, Storro and Ricker each scored twice. Ricker also had an assist. Hunter Goss, Robbie Ferguson and Galli rounded out the scoring. Galli had three assists, Cashin added two, and Kasiaras helped on one.

The Squirt A's beat Lakes Region, 4-2. Ferguson, Coleman, Cashin and Storro tallied.

The Edmund's Ace Hardware Henniker Huskies Pee Wee A team tied the Lebanon Lightning, 3-3. Dylan Payea, Saer Murray and Shane Earley scored. Shane Earley, Nathan Philbrick, Luke Roever and Dylan Payea each assisted. Luke Roever and Aidan Donovan led the defense.

The Pee Wees beat the Jr. Monarchs, 5-2. Payea earned a hat trick, and Earley scored twice. Ryder Thompson and Philbrick notched assists. Nick Kasiaras and Will Callif were strong on defense.

In a 5-4 win over Medford, Payea turned in another hat trick, while Philbrick and Earley also tallied. Murray, Philbrick, Earley and Payea had assists.

The TDS Telecom Henniker Huskies Mite A team won the championship in the Andrew Irving Mite Jamboree recently in St. Albans, Vt. Kyle Kolehmainen, Jake Blanchette and Josh Chapman led the Huskies into the final. Connor Lane had three tourney shutouts. In the finals, Cooper Bourque scored with help from Sam Atkins. Danielle Galli put one in net, and Colton Mc Allister had a hat trick. Peter Sawitsky, Erik Leger and Cameron Bourque played strong defense all weekend.

The Arcomm Communications Henniker Huskies U-14 girls took second in the recent Casco Bay, Maine tournament.

Kyleigh Joseph scored the game winner in a 1-0 semifinal win against Seacoast Lightning. Ali Lyons earned the shutout in net. The U-14 girls also beat Providence, 4-1, and Dover 4-2, but lost to Waterville, Maine, in the final. Cara Jankowski led the way with five goals, Greer McBeth added four, Joseph scored two, and Annelel Jones added another in the tournament. Abby Kessler, Mimi Patten and Laurel Bauer had assists.
