GOFFSTOWN

Flood finish
Trash bins, toilets soon to be removed

By Rod Hansen
Staff Writer

The town-sponsored trash containers are about to leave The Parks.

The large rubbish bins in the area of Goffstown most affected by the Mother’s Day floods will be gone as of Monday, July 17.

Those containers, each 30 cubic yards, have been a fixture in The Parks section of town since the floods of May 14. Residents have been using them to dispose of materials with extensive water damage.

Currently, there are containers on Danis Park Road, Dumont Park Road, Russell Avenue and Moose Club Park Road.

Some of the trash containers are now nearly empty, according to photos selectmen reviewed at their meeting of Monday, July 10.

“Judging from the pictures, it looks like there are some (trash containers) that are not being used,” said Selectman Nick Campasano.

However, Campasano said the removal of the trash containers might cause hardship for those unable to haul materials out of the area.

“I’m concerned about people who can’t bring things to the transfer station,” Campasano said.

Selectmen Chairman Barbara Griffin said residents in such a position would need to find other means to get there materials to the transfer station.

“I understand we want to show compassion, but if you’ve got something big you need to get to the transfer station, you need to find a way to get it there,” Griffin said.

The transfer station will continue to waive fees for residents disposing of flood-damaged building materials. Selectmen will review that policy at their meeting of July 24.

Portable toilets in the area will be removed on Aug. 8, according to a previous vote of the board.
