MST dominates recent swim meet
On Jan. 15, the Manchester Rapids swim team turned in a strong performance, defeating the North County Aquatic Club, 472-187. The meet also introduced four new MST swimmers – Ciaran Mahon, 7; Marina Ulemek, 9; Corey Ford, 12; and Whitney Powers, 15.
MST dominated the boys divisions by shutting out NCAC in the 13- and 14-year-old age group and winning every event in the 8-and-under age group.
Hayden Mitchell and Fritz Manson each grabbed three wins, while Matt Goczalk took two individual wins. Colin Conneally won both the 200-meter freestyle and medley relays.
Riley Ewing touched the wall first in three races, Zach Bonte was tops in two events, and Karam Sandhu was a victor in another. Kyle Colella, just 7, completed the winning 8-and-younger relay team.
Milan Sandhu was a three-time winner in the boys 9- and 10-year-old age group. Alex Ewing and Lucas Ford also turned in first-place performances. Jeff Bernier was part of two winning relay teams.
In the male 11- and 12-year-old age group, triple winners Brian Lynch and Ryan Mitchell led the division. Shayne Bernier was tops in the 50-meter butterfly. Ford completed the winning relays for this age group.
Kyle Pinheiro took a pair of wins in the male 15- to 19-year-old age category, Chris Walczyk won the 200-meter freestyle, and Brian Volonte turned in a personal record in the 100 free. Chris O’Connell joined these swimmers to grab the 200 medley relay. Sean McCann teamed with Scott Ewing, O’Connell and Pinheiro to win the 200 free relay.
The MST women captured 19 out of 36 events. Sisters Elizabeth and Katie Aldrich were triple winners. Katie Aldrich, Abigail Mitchell, Maria Colella and Stephanie Lynn took first place in the 11- and 12-year-old 200 medley relay. Colella, Katie Donovan, Lynn and Aldrich took the 200 free relay. Colella also won the 100 free.
Christina Denbow led the 9- and 10-year-olds with three wins. She also joined Haley Charest, Kathryn O’Neill and Danielle Morin to win the 200 medley relay. The 200 free relay team of Denbow, Morin, Savannah Lavoie and Marina Ulemek took first, too.
Carolyn O’Hara was a triple winner in the female 15- to 19-year-old category. Kendra Decelle and Caitlin McCullough also won events. Melissa Goczalk joined McCullough, Decelle and O’Hara to win the 200 medley relay. Ashley Green, Jackie Foster, Anna Buchta and O’Hara won the 200 free relay.
Leah Burke was a double winner in the female 13- and 14-year-old age group. Kerry McCann, Olivia McQuade and Marissa Lynn joined Burke to win both the 200 medley and free relays.
Other swimmers posting personal records in at least one of their events were Mary Clair Kramer, Elizabeth Conway, Katherine Berg, Hayley Berg, Savannah Breton, Kelsey Ewing, Elizabeth Morin, Mary Casinghino, Jackie Foster and Delia Helie.
