NHTI men and women host, take tourneys

The New Hampshire Technical Institute women took a halftime lead of 38-21 over Hesser College and never looked back in winning their third straight Northern New England Small College Conference championship on Saturday, Feb. 5, 73-55.

Jen Roy, a Central alumna, led the way with 27 points and 10 rebounds. Cathie Murphy added 13 rebounds and 12 points. Kathy Geddis tallied 10 points and distributed six assists.

The women improved to 15-6 on the season.

In the men’s game on Feb. 5, the Capitals broke open a tight contest with a 15-2 run, building a 47-35 lead en route to a 83-71 win over rival Hesser College.

Jay Szidat threw down a tremendous dunk to spark the team’s second-half performance. Nate Truncellito, a Central alumnus, led the team with 17 points. Matt Spanos added 15 points, while Chris Lawes scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds.

In the team’s 68-64 semifinal win over MBCC, Zach Hall led the way with 17 points. Chris Barker added 15 points and seven assists.

The men are now 24-3 on the season.

NHTI will host the YSCAA men’s and women’s final four tournament this weekend.
