Crowd protests possible building at Mt. St. Mary’s
By Nicholas Brown Hooksett residents were spilling out of the town hall chambers to hear a request from an offshoot of Brady Sullivan Properties to build a 70-unit condominium behind the Mount Saint Mary’s building on Route 3. Library officials, fearing Brady Sullivan would look to build on the sprawling front lawn of the Mount Saint Mary’s building and nearby library if the town’s zoning board denied a request to waive an ordinance limiting residential buildings to 12 units, rallied Hooksett residents to attend the Tuesday, July 11, meeting. Before developers made a presentation, zoning board Vice Chairman Chris Pearson informed the company’s representatives that its application for a variance was outdated and said the company failed to properly notify abutters. A company representative agreed to submit a new application, and the zoning board continued the hearing to its August 8 meeting. Pearson also read a letter from Library Trustees Chairman Mary Farwell that noted previous planning, and zoning board agreements with Brady Sullivan that the lawn in front of the historic building is to be left as open space “in perpetuity.” Zoning board members suggested moving the Aug. 8 meeting to a larger venue to accommodate the interested public. About 65 people attended the latest hearing.
